Asus is reportedly discontinuing the Zenfone series

Asus has been making their Zenfone series of smartphones since 2014. But a report from Taiwanese Media suggests that the latest Asus Zenfone 10 lineup might be the last phone on the Zenfone series as Asus is preparing to discontinue the series.

According to a ‘Digitimes‘ report back in July Asus was going through a restructuring of their company where they were going to move a lot of employees to the companies mobile division but instead they were laid off as they reportedly shut down their Zenfone division. The report says: “the Zenfone team will be merged into other departments in the future, or directly into the ROG team”.

The Zenfone series were pretty innovative. The Zenfone 6 was the first phone to introduce a swivel camera where the back cameras flip to the front when taking a selfie. Since the Zenfone 9 they went in a new direction, they started to make high end compact smartphones which was really uncommon.

The Zenfone 10 is the latest device in the series and might be the last. It has a 5.9 inch display with a 4300mAh battery. currently It’s the only compromise free compact phone available on the market. But if the rumours are true then this is going to be the end of an era.

As of now, Asus has not made any public statement regarding this report. This decision could potentially arise from the Zenfone series not being as profitable, although this remains speculative at this point.
