Affordable Foldable smartphone Future: Companies Debut Sub-$600 Models at MWC
Since the introduction of foldable smartphones, they’ve primarily appealed to tech enthusiasts. However, the landscape is shifting in 2024 as companies race to propel the technology into the mainstream consumer space. At Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024, four new flip-style foldables were unveiled, with prices ranging from $400 to $600.

One of the devices is the Doogee Flip X, slated for an April release. It boasts a MediaTek Helio G99 chipset with up to 8GB of RAM and a 256GB storage configuration. The device features a vibrant 6.9″ FHD+ AMOLED display with a resolution of 2790×1188 and a 3800mAh battery with 18W fast charging support. The price of the Doogee Flip X is expected to be around $500.
Another contender is the Blackview Hero 10, offering a compelling package with its 6.9″ punch-hole display and a high refresh rate of 120Hz. Powered by the MediaTek Helio G99 chipset coupled with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, it also boasts an impressive 108MP main camera. Pricing starts at $400.
Energizer enters the foldable fray with its Ultimate U660S, featuring a 6.67-inch FHD+ internal display. Also powered by the Helio G99 chipset with up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, it features a 25MP main camera. The device offers a compelling price point of $549.
Lastly, the Nubia Flip, which is the most expensive and powerful of the bunch. Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC, it is also the only 5G smartphone in this list. It features a 6.9″ OLED inner display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a 1.43″ cover screen for media control, making calls, and more.
As more companies join the market with competitive pricing, foldable smartphones are poised to become widely accessible to consumers globally, ushering a new era of smartphone design and functionality.
