OnePlus 12, the latest flagship from Oneplus was launched in December 2023. The phone offers a great value for its price. All the flagship specs are present in the device without asking for the full flagship price. But there are a couple of downsides that most people complain about. One of them is the absence of AI features that almost all Android flagships started to offer.
Trending AI features on smartphones 2023-24
Pixel 8 series and Galaxy S24 series show the true benefits of these AI features in real life. Such as the magic eraser can remove almost any object in a photo and fill its area using AI generative fill. Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is capable of running LLM natively on the device without relying on the internet connection.
Live translation and transcription during calls make it easy to talk to non-native speakers without communication issues. Also generating a summary from the transcription helps to get an overview of the conversation.
Users can summarize web pages, notes, documents, etc to save reading time. Creating AI wallpapers using text commands is another great AI touch to the Android 14.
Unfortunately, despite being a 2024 flagship, none of these features are available in OnePlus 12 out of the box. But OnePlus planned to add these features on the day of Chinese New Year via OEM updates. The update has already been pushed to Chinese models of OnePlus 12. OnePlus Ace 3 and Ace 2 Pro also received the update.

The OnePlus 12 Large AI Model update so far includes
- Image object removal
- AI call summary
- Dedicated AI chatbot
The object removal tool appears to be very good at intelligently filling the empty area.
The AI can also generate a summary of the conversation using a first-person perspective tone. It also generates some bullet points from that calling session.
The dedicated AI chatbot apps work like other AI language models like ChatGPT, Claude AI, Google Bard/ Gemini, etc.
These are the AI features that OnePlus added to their couple of flagship devices. These already created positive impressions among Chinese users. They may add more AI features in the future via software updates. Unfortunately, we don’t have accurate information on when the Global users will receive the update.
Oneplus also confirmed that the OnePlus 11 and OnePlus Ace 2 will also receive this update soon. So joy for them too.
